An Unseen Match Begins For Athletes After The Game Ends

The final whistle blows.

Silence fill the                                                                   place.

An   athlete gets off the field carrying with him a burden, but trying to hold himself

together while the crowd were spreading comments to judge a moment that lasted for seconds.

People tend to be superficial, focusing only on the outside picture even if it’s just performance. After the game ends, the pressure takes place. The comments never stop. They keep on replying every mistake over and over while their anger grows. No matter how confident, talented, and famous an athlete can be, he’s still a human after all with emotions and fears.

We often treat athletes as if they’re machines which have one role: to win, but the moment they fail or look emotional or admit they’re mentally struggling people get weirded out as if that can’t be happening. In their minds, they are only made to perform well. A missed goal becomes embarrassing. One emotional reaction can turn into criticism and memes. A bad performance is just an excuse for hate.

Think about it, put yourself in the athlete’s shoe. Imagine waking up everyday knowing that one mistake can turn your “fans” if they’re one into tough creatures who will hate on you for the rest of your life. Imagine carrying the pressure of your team, your fans, your career, your family, and your own expectations all at once while still trying to fake being okay in front of cameras. Sometimes, what affects the most is not the loss itself, but words of people that come afterward.

To conclude, athletes don’t stop being human-beings just because they became successful one day. They still have feelings. Feelings that should be taken into consideration. Before leaving a negative comment, ask yourself how would that affect the athlete? Because at the end of the day..they’re still human.
